Solkadhi

Solkadhi is a traditional drink from the coastal regions of India, particularly popular in Maharashtra, Goa, and parts of Karnataka. It’s a refreshing, tangy drink made primarily from coconut milk and kokum (a type of fruit). It’s typically served as an accompaniment to meals or enjoyed as a digestive aid.

Ingredients for One Serving:
  • 1/4 cup coconut milk (fresh or store-bought)
  • 1-2 kokum petals (you can use dried kokum; soak them in warm water for about 10-15 minutes)
  • 1 small green chili (optional, for an extra kick)
  • 1/2 teaspoon jaggery (optional)
  • Salt to taste
  • A pinch of cumin powder (optional)
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish (optional)
  • Water (for adjusting the consistency)
Method:

Soak the kokum petals in warm water for about 10-15 minutes
Once soaked, crush the kokum petals gently in the water to release its juice. Strain the liquid. In a glass or bowl, mix the coconut milk with the kokum extract. Add salt to taste. Optionally, you can add a small green chili for an extra spicy kick, a pinch of cumin powder and a little sugar to balance the tanginess.Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve chilled.

Nannari

Nannari drink is a traditional and popular drink in South India, made from the roots of the Indian sarsaparilla plant (Hemidesmus indicus), commonly known as nannari or “Indian sarsaparilla.” This plant is widely known for its medicinal properties, and the drink made from it is believed to offer various health benefits.Nannari drink has its origins in South India like Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and other parts of the southern Indian peninsula.

Ingredients for One Serving:
  • 1-2 teaspoons of nannari syrup (or you can use fresh nannari root if available)
  • 1 cup cold water
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice (optional, for extra freshness)
  • 1 teaspoon jaggery
  • Ice cubes (optional)
Method:

If you’re using fresh nannari roots, you can grind them with a little water to make a paste, then strain it to extract the juice. In most cases, you’ll use a pre-made nannari syrup, which is readily available in stores. If you’re using syrup, measure about 1-2 teaspoons.
In a glass, combine the nannari syrup, jaggery, and lemon juice (optional). Stir well.
Add cold water to the mixture and Add ice cubes for a chilled drink. You can garnish the drink with a few mint leaves or a slice of lemon for an extra refreshing touch.

Method:

For Sweet Lassi: In a blender, add the plain yogurt, cold water, jaggery, and ice cubes. Blend all the ingredients together until smooth and creamy. Pour the lassi into a glass and garnish with a sprig of fresh mint leaves. Serve chilled.

For Savory Lassi: In a blender, add the yogurt, cold water, salt, cumin powder, and ice cubes. Blend the ingredients until smooth. Pour into a glass, and serve chilled. Garnish with a sprinkle of cumin powder or fresh herbs.

  • 1 tablespoon tarkhuna (tarragon) leaves (fresh or dried)
  • 1-2 teaspoons honey (adjust to taste)
  • 1 cup cold water
  • A pinch of salt (optional, to balance flavors)
  • Lemon juice (optional, for added freshness)
  • Ice cubes (optional, for a chilled drink)
  • Fresh mint leaves for garnish (optional)
Method:

Prepare the Tarragon Infusion: If you’re using fresh tarragon leaves, crush or lightly bruise them to release their aroma. If you’re using dried tarragon, use about 1 tablespoon of dried leaves. In a glass or bowl, add the tarragon leaves and soak them in hot water for about 5-10 minutes, then strain the mixture to remove the leaves and collect the liquid. Now add 1-2 teaspoons of honey to taste, add a pinch of salt to enhance the flavors. Add cold water and add ice cubes to the drink if you prefer a chilled version. Optionally, add lemon juice for a tangy kick and garnish with fresh mint leaves for extra freshness. Serve the drink chilled for the best refreshing experience.
